Newspace Chicago starts off the fall season with Negotiated Realities, an exhibition of new and recent photography by Jakub Augustyn and Brad Farwell.

Brad Farwell is concerned with the act and document of viewing and its implications. He often exposes himself as the photographer within the landscape, the rashly unpredictable effort to make something more out of an existing reality. He is interested in where the photograph fails, both physically and formally and is working extensively to understand how the viewer obscures one subject while examining another within the work. Brad received his BA from Yale University and graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in May 2006 with an MFA emphasis in photography.

Jakub Augustyn? work involves the emotions of a boy becoming a man. With this in mind, he creates imagery with a hyper reality in which the action taking place is familiar yet uneasy. The characters are minimally elaborated, although represented by the same actor, which further compels the ambiguity and tension within the work. These somewhat familiar moments of a boy? life turn into scenes where generational worlds collide and convey a clumsy footing on a very apparent shifting of reality. Jakub will receive his BFA from the School of the Art Institute in December.
