In these works on paper, there is a formalistic quality that is eye catching to say the least. Immediately, we are drawn into the color, lines, and negative space that is offered. We are left gazing at these pieces and wonder. But then, it becomes apparent that there are more than just formalistic qualities at work here. Peaks of mountains, and houses, and water, and fire all add importance to these drawings. Hector, not unlike most artists, responds to the world he lives in. Where waves are beautiful and precise, yet chaotic at the same time. A house is no more than four walls and a roof, yet living organisms can take it over and engulf it.
In this exhibition, Hector explores the effects of opposition in his work. He takes elements in nature and blends them together to show how they can exist within a world that is both chaotic and ordered at the same time. Not only is this shown only in nature, but everyday life, which is why Hector's work is so relevant to people today.
